Tutor-Marked Assignment (TMA) for BUS100
For my BUS100 TMA1, we were tasked to construct a spreadsheet
model for the problem that was assigned to us through what we have learnt in
seminars and also the study guides. During this TMA1, since it was my first
ever assignment for BUS100, I had difficulty in understanding what exactly was
expected from us and how I was supposed to present my spreadsheet model. We
were supposed to fit the spreadsheet model in a single page and that was one of
the difficulty that I faced as I had quite a few workings.
However, after working on it further, I realize that I was
able to use more formulas to minimize my workings and hence I was able to fit
all my workings in a single page. Apart from that, I also consulted my
classmates and she manage to explain to me further on what is expected for the
assignment. I also had difficulty in finding the right formula for the working.
For this, I solve it by trying a few formula and eliminate lengthy workings and
keep those that are short and simple to understand.
For this assignment, I enjoyed trying out the different
formulas as I find that through trying the formulas, I am able to understand
the formulas better. Hence through trying out multiple times, I will be able to
use it for my future spreadsheet problems.
However, I did not particularly enjoy reading the study
guide as I find that it was complicated and I had a hard time understanding
before the seminars started.
For my TMA1, my tutor indicated that my influence diagram
was lacking of inputs. Hence, he told me that I had to go through the influence
diagram topic again to understand how the diagram works. However, he did comment
that I did a good attempt for my formatting. He also recommended me to use simple
formula on certain part of my assignment so that it will be straightforward and
user friendly.
From this assignment, I manage to gain new intermediate
Excel skills that I believe will help me in my future assignment and also
possible my future job task. I find that one area I manage to do well is to
identify areas where I can improve on and make it more user friendly. However,
I felt that I could improve by familiarizing myself with other formulas and not
use repetitive formulas.
From this learning experience, I manage to learn more new
intermediate skills on Excel. Not only that but I manage to learn that the
first solution might never be the best solution. We should never stop at the
first solution and should always work to improve our work better.
